Apple fined €1.8bn for breaking streaming rules

Recently, tech giant Apple has been hit with a hefty fine of €1.8 billion for violating streaming rules. The European Commission found that Apple had abused its dominant position in the market by imposing unfair restrictions on music streaming services that compete with its own Apple Music platform.

According to the EU competition commissioner, Margrethe Vestager, Apple’s actions stifled competition and harmed consumers by limiting their choices and raising prices. The fine, which is the largest ever imposed by the European Commission in an antitrust case, serves as a warning to other tech companies that they must play by the rules or face severe consequences.

Apple has stated that it plans to appeal the decision and believes that it has acted in accordance with EU law. However, the company will still be required to change its business practices and comply with the regulations set forth by the European Commission.

As the case unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Apple responds and how this ruling may impact the streaming industry as a whole.
